HOW IT STARTED
LAUREN.
HERITAGE.
Lauren introduced Mo to disc golf during COVID.
For their first year playing, Heritage was their home course.
He survived.
THE GAME
WHAT'S IN MO'S BAG.
Nuke
Out of everything Mo carries, the Nuke probably gets thrown on more holes and more shots than anything else.
Pull The Nuke.
Any forehand over 235 feet and there's a good chance the Nuke is coming out.
Attendance.
Hard to argue with consistency.
Build Consistency.
Not necessarily the glamorous answer. Probably the useful one.
One Inch Higher.
Missing putts an inch low just as often from 10 feet as from 40.
STRONGEST PART OF HIS GAME
ATTENDANCE.
Mo's answer. Not ours.
THE CURRENT PROBLEM
ONE INCH.
TOO LOW.
Mo's current goal is simple: build consistency.
Right now, putting is providing a particularly effective demonstration of why.
He can miss a putt an inch low from 10 feet just as easily as he can from 40.
At least the miss is consistent.
THE MEMORY THAT STUCK
SIX YEARS OLD.
ONE DISC.
Mo's favorite disc golf memory isn't one of his own shots.
At his son's first-ever kids league, there was a Ring of Fire for a disc.
His son was only six.
Before that, they had played some casual holes together and, of course, spent time putting in the backyard. He'd never done anything like this before.
Then he won it.
Fair and square.
For Mo, watching his son win that disc was probably more exciting than any ace he's hit.
FAVORITE ACE
DOWNHILL
STILL COUNTS.
NORTH PARK
Current Hole 8 · Former Hole 6
Before the North Park redesign, today's Hole 8 was Hole 6.
That's where Mo hit his last ace before the course was redesigned.
It also remains his longest ace by far.
Downhill still counts.
WHAT DOES BEING A BASKET CASE MEAN?
BUILD THE
COMMUNITY.
— Mo Selim
For Mo, being a Basket Case means building community and fostering healthy competition and self-improvement through disc golf.
It also extends beyond the players and beyond the course.
It means improving local parks and getting players involved in the process of engaging with local parks and city officials.
The objective is bigger than another round.Get players involved. Improve the places we play. Grow the sport.
